The Sir Winston Churchill Banknote Coin and Stamp Set
Ask anyone in the English speaking world (or beyond) to name a British politician from the 20th century and one name would probably keep cropping up – that of Winston Churchill. For the first time you can commemorate our greatest wartime leader Sir Winston Churchill by collecting his “firsts” – the first coin first stamps and first banknote to bear his image. All in one place and in a set that is exclusive to Heritage Coins.
The Churchill Crown
Made in honour of Churchill following his death in 1965 this five-shilling crown bearing his effigy marks the first time that a non-Royal was featured on British coinage.
The Churchill Commemorative Stamps
Produced in 1965 these were the first stamps ever to bear his image. Included are both the 4d and 1s 3d – the colours indicating the sombre mood of the nation following Churchill’s death. In 1974 he was to appear on stamps once again this time marking the centenary of his birth.
The Churchill £5 note
Over fifty years after Winston Churchill was first shown a British coin there was another first. A new £5 note bearing his image entered into general circulation. These new notes the very first polymer notes that the Bank of England has produced (designed to replace the previous paper-linen issues that had a shorter lifespan) show Churchill in a spotted bow tie in front of the Palace of Westminster. Below him are the words from his first speech as Prime Minister in May 1940 where he told the country that he had “nothing to offer but blood toil tears and sweat”. It is intended that the note will be in use for many years to come – Churchill’s legacy and his name live on.Restricted Availability – very limited sets available due to scarcity Each of the sets is presented in an informative presentation folder with a detailed certificate of authenticity outlining the life of Churchill and information about the coin banknote and stamps.
